Jumaatun Azmi

Jumaatun Azmi is the co-founder and managing director of KasehDia Sdn Bhd[1] and editor of The Halal Journal.[2]

Graduating in 1998, Jumaatun received a scholarship from the New Straits Times Press and joined the company as a journalist. A year later, while still working as a journalist, she founded KasehDia with friends Nordin Abdullah and Nori Abdullah. Its first product was a 2000 desk calendar featuring landscapes and quotes from the Quran.[3]

As KasehDia grew from the bedroom where it began into a living room, Jumaatun quit journalism in 2002 to focus full time on the company. It moved into a new office in 2004. It began publishing a popular range of books covering halal foods: Halal Drinks, Food for the Heart,[3] and Halal Food: A Guide to Good Eating, a series of halal food guidebooks covering restaurants, bistros and stalls in various tourist destinations worldwide.[4] By 2007, the database behind these guidebooks contained more than 800 restaurants, and a new website was launched.[5]

With KasehDia, Jumaatun launched The Halal Journal in February 2005.[6] She edited it,[2] and extended it into a television show in September of the same year.[7] In 2007, by which time the journal was being distributed in 30 countries, it began being translated into Bahasa, with other languages being planned.[5] She also organised the World Halal Forum to provide a focal point for the global halal industry.[8]

Jumaatun married KasehDia's executive director Nordin Abdullah and had three children.[3]
